In de Vrede, our visitor centre, lies
a stone’s throw from Saint Sixtus Abbey.
There is the taproom with a generous table where you
can regain your strength.
The claustrum
From the visitor centre you reach the Claustrum, an evocative space where you come to know our community of brothers.
Through short films we tell of our life as monks and in the midst of the community.
Open on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday,
From 14.00 to 17.00.
Admission is free.
The pilgrims’ chapel
Barely a hundred metres further on – towards the abbey – stands our Pilgrims’ Chapel, freely open to all.
From the wide hop-growing landscape you step into an utterly sheltered and intimate space.
Tempered light from above
swathes the Madonna
and offers silence and inwardness.
The Lourdes grotto
The magnificent Grottedreve, an avenue of beeches through the wood, leads you to the Lourdes grotto.
A gift from our community to the Mother of God. A place of prayer raised out of an intense gratitude.
Here too – in this small clearing in the wood – the silence is sacred. But for the rustling of the leaves.
Walking in the area
The Sixtus walking trail leads the visitor once more into the wide landscape around Saint Sixtus Abbey.
Ringing the bell
Visitors who wish to pray with us may ring the bell.
The monastery gate will open, so that during the Liturgy of the Hours in the Abbey church we may voice our deep thanks together.
