“The one who loves, sings!” (Augustine of Hippo)
The one who loves God and knows himself loved by Him, cannot keep silent about this love. His heart flows over. He wants to give words to his love, longs to ‘sing them out’ and to celebrate God. This happens when Christians get together to love and thank God. However, it is not a ‘one-way direction’ system. Fellowship with God is a true meeting. When reading the Bible, in rituals and liturgical gestures, when praying and singing in community, monks are able to experience again and again: God is present and speaks his word to us.
Throughout the centuries, monks gratuitousness sing out Gods love.
